It snowed all day today. Engulfed in a blanket of white fluff Amsterdam looks like a dream. The city’s public transport, however, becomes unreliable on snow days and I didn’t want any part of it, so I decided to work from home.
Luckily I’d no meetings, just emails and a tall stack of regulatory papers to go through in preparation of an upcoming audit. So, I read them from the comfort of my bed while watching snowflakes fall on the balcony floor. It was a perfect day. 🙂
Since I saved time by not commuting to and back from work, I decided to tackle my chaotic chest of drawers that stores casual clothing and accessories. For days, I’d been feeling like I had nothing to wear on weekends, so it was about time I faced my inventory.
My frustration has been well-placed. Most clothing in my drawer either didn’t fit right or belonged to warmer months not freezing days. So, I stored it away with the professional summer clothes and made a mental list of what can be added to my casual winter wardrobe to ease my annoyance.
In my current stock, I’ve one well-fitting pair of jeans that I wear year round. I also have four sweaters, as well as two cotton dresses that can be worn at home. It’d be nice to have a couple more bottoms to mix and match with the sweaters for going out.
I’ve ordered a black pair of jeans–fingers crossed it arrives before my trip to the US in two and a half weeks. I’ve also bought a suede skirt. It’s currently too loose on my waist, but I’m taking it to the tailor tomorrow to check if it can be snipped for a better fit. Again, fingers crossed!
It’s one of my financial goals to pay my student loans in full by mid this year. To accomplish this goal, I’m following a strict budget that doesn’t always accommodate the high cost of ethical clothing. So, I had to make a compromise while adding the new skirt and pair of jeans to my wardrobe.
Buying skirts and dresses is always tricky for me because my top and bottom sizes are different. That combined with an ambitious budget and a condition to buy exclusively ethical significantly limits my options. Inevitably, I didn’t find a skirt that was my style, ethically made, and well-priced. I then went with a mainstream option. I already knew the pair of jeans I wanted though. It’d been on my Everlane wishlist for a longtime, which made it easier to take the plunge.
My reason for sharing this little backstory of my new purchase is to encourage you to stay positive about any changes you’re trying to incorporate in your life. It’s probably never a straight line and may be the changes will never be one hundred percent perfect, but you’ve to keep striving for better everyday. Put in the effort. I’m happy that I invested time and thought into this purchase and managed to align at least half of it with my drive to live consciously, and with respect to the environment and the people inhabiting it.
That’s it for today! If you’d like more such casual, chatty posts, then do let me know. Take care, lovelies. xx
This is the third time im hanging by your blog since you left, and realized I must say hola.
I think I did drop a comment last time, but can’t find it though. Realized there’s no notification system on the web for comments, in case I receive a reply. I loved this casual chatty post, would love to see more of it to stay updated with you. You are such an inspiration. I feel calmer and comforted when I read your updates. Looking forward for your updates from USA.
Loads of love.
P.s. I enjoyed writing this much more than IG comment.
