What I Wore | A Dry Shampoo Kind of Day

More than any day this winter, today I felt grateful for a capsule wardrobe. I woke up late, and since I’d forgotten to prepare my breakfast last night, there was that situation to deal with. I ate an apple with peanut butter and chugged a cup of coffee, so I could get dressed only to realize it was also a greasy hair kind of day. Dry shampoo came to the rescue and then I was out the door!

It took me no time to decide the outfit though because I could’ve picked any piece from my 30 item capsule wardrobe and it would’ve worked. I went for my wool dress in a deep maroon color. I’ve had this Reiss dress for a year now, and its color and pure wool composition are perfect for fall and winter months.

Initially I’d thought the short sleeves would bother me, but now I prefer them. I tend to pair this dress with a blazer and it’s so nice to be able to remove the blazer when the office heating is at full blast. The short sleeves then help keep me cool, especially during lunchtime in the cafeteria.

I stuck to my basic black heels, tights and bag to complement the dress and blazer. The power outfit got me through a busy day that I survived on apple and peanut butter, and the two boiled eggs that I managed to sneak in for lunch. Dinner was a meat and potato stew–courtesy of my wonderful husband–so I more than made up for the average morning meals.

A beautiful bouquet of flowers also helped put the busy day at the back of my mind–again, courtesy of the husband who is really a mind reader! Just this morning I was thinking how I’d stopped my weekly run to the florist.

The flower expense has been part of the cuts I’ve made to accommodate my financial goal of paying off my student loans in full by mid-year. If you’d like to know more about how I budget / plan my finances long-term, let me know! I’ll be happy to write a post about that.

I’m looking forward to the weekend. We’ve plans starting from tomorrow night until Sunday afternoon. I hope I’ll find time for self-care and meal-prep to avoid another average breakfast and dry shampoo morning next week! How do you plan for a new week?

Anyhow, this is it for today. Wishing you all a fabulous weekend!

Thank you. I absolutely love the neckline too. It’s so feminine.
Point noted–I’ll try to come up with something coherent soon. 🙂 I’m also always interested in how other young adults are managing their finances. It can be so daunting sometimes.
