Ted Baker Wool Coat Review

Please read the update review of the Ted Baker Wool Coat after four years of use here.

I first caught a glimpse of the Ted Baker Wool Coat (US, UK, NL) before it arrived in stores. It looked so luxe and versatile–the kind that would take one from office to runway in no time. When I saw the price tag in stores though, I was discouraged. However, once I tried it on, I fell in love with the quality and fit and couldn’t resist immediately putting it on my wishlist.

During a Ted Baker flash sale in September, I bit the bullet and bought the coat for EUR 344 (retail price EUR 430)! I have been wearing it non-stop since. With the Christmas/End of Season sales coming up, I thought this would be a good time to write a short review of this classic coat by Ted Baker, in case any of you are planning on snagging it at a discounted price.

Fabric composition

This coat is warm and cozy enough for the Western European winter. I’ve worn it a ton in Amsterdam, but also on my weekly work trips to London. The warmth and coziness are attributed to the wool and cashmere content. It also looks stylish whether the collar is buttoned. I also love the gold hardware detailing and  how quickly it dries. I often get caught in unpredictable showers in Amsterdam and London. Each time I am surprised at how quickly the wetness and water stains disappear. So, if you live somewhere rainy like I do, don’t fret.

Sizing & fit

The fit is true to size. I am usually a UK8/EU36/US4, but I sized up despite the UK8 (#2 in Ted Baker sizing) fitting me perfectly. That was just so I could wear blazers and such underneath the coat without feeling suffocated. If your lifestyle does not demand that, you would be fine choosing your true size. In terms of fit, I also love how the coat cinches in at the waist and has an a-line bottom. So flattering for pear-shaped bodies!

Drawbacks

There are two drawbacks to the coat for me. First is the lint it collects, but that is the story of most dark-colored wool coats. This is easily solved if you’ve a lint roller at home. I also bring one in my carry on when I travel. Second drawback is the dry-cleaning bill because it cannot be cleaned at home. Again, this is the story of most premium coats. Owing to its dark color though, I don’t expect it to dry clean it as often as I would lighter colored clothing.

Verdict

Overall, would I repurchase this coat? In a heartbeat. For me, the quality and fit overshadow the two drawbacks. And that’s the reason why I would also recommend any working women out there looking for a professional-looking winter coat to definitely give this classic by Ted Baker a consideration. 🙂
